Cox and Slee’s article also cast doubt on how Airbnb was able to hide its estimated revenues, so I wrote, “Based on all this, I have no reason not to take the company at its word that by next year, the vast majority of revenue from entire listings—some 86%—will go to single-list hosts who also happen to be middle-class.” That expectation was based on a trend in which the number of agents had been falling, and Cox and Slee’s report claims that “the only dip was just before November 17, when the rate dropped from 19% to 10%.” It has since started to rise again, however, and is now around 13%.

Perhaps the most telling indicator of Airbnb’s intentions—I mean, beyond its continued refusal to take any action to curb illegal listings or to delegate to cities what they need to do so themselves—is that “most of the hosts spain mobile phone numbers database affected by the purge remained on the site because of inventory, proving that Airbnb has not kicked the ‘worst performers’ off its platform.” On average, most of them own 0.8 entire homes, and the three with the highest numbers of units (10, 11, and 12 listings as of November 1, 2015) had lost them all by November 20.

It doesn’t really matter whether the data is even partially true, or slightly “airbrushed,” or even false: based on current trends, Airbnb will continue to do what it’s doing, continue to aggressively expand into new markets and take stock of existing ones, while also arguing that we need to rethink the way governments regulate real estate and property rights to help the middle class. And it will probably win most of those arguments, because who doesn’t enjoy staying in an Airbnb apartment or making money renting out their space through the service, which fully justifies its title as “ the third-largest private startup on the planet by market cap ,” even more expensive than Hilton or Mariott, which play a less ambitious game than Airbnb.

Well, to be completely honest, the last apartment where I stayed with the help of this service was gorgeous, and I didn’t bother to check how legal it was and whether the owners had others.

The New York subway is one of the most developed and complex transport systems in the world. If 40 years ago the main American subway was famous mainly for its high crime rate and tons of garbage dumped right at the stations, now it is rightfully considered one of the flagships of transport technologies.
